Spring Event Registration

• Event registration for Spring FLLE events is now open for teams who have not yet competed for the UNEARTHED season. The event registration page is posted on the Michigan FLLE Events page at the Event Registration link at the top. The list of events is posted at the events page as well. All event registration will be completed by form; no email or phone registration requests are accepted. Event placements will be posted on the team list beginning this weekend.
• If an additional event is added that you would like to attend, submit a new form and it will replace your original choices.
• If you are interested in hosting an event, please reach out to angela@firstinmichigan.org.

Future Edition update

• You can find details about program changes to FLLE at this informational page at the FIRST in Michigan website: FLL Program Updates. New information will be added as it becomes available.
• Watch for details in an upcoming email about a coach call in early May to answer questions about the program changes at the early elementary level!

World Festival Opportunity

• Michigan has one spot at the World Festival for an FLL Explore team. If your team has attended a festival already for the UNEARTHED season and you would like to be considered to represent Michigan, please complete this Google form by this Sunday, March 15th. On March 16th, one team will be selected randomly from among those interested, notified, and submitted to FIRST.
• Please only respond if you will 100% absolutely attend if selected.
• The event registration fee is $750 for the attending team, paid by the team to FIRST.
• All expenses for travel, lodging, etc. are the responsibility of the attending team. There are no additional grant funds available.

Team Paperwork

Now is the time to start getting your team’s “paperwork” in order. It can take time to get coaches screened and consent forms signed, so start now. Rosters will be due the Monday before your event. You can find directions for completing your team’s required roster and consent forms at the Event Readiness page. If you have any questions on this process after reading through the Event Readiness page fully, please let me know.

Grants

• Donors Choose:
  • Through generous support from 3M, FIRST® related DonorsChoose project funding is now available to any US-based full-time educators and school district employees who work directly with students at least 75% of the time from Public Schools, Public Charter School, Head Start Centers, and Bureau of Indian Education Schools. FIRST educators will create a project on DonorsChoose and once the project is live, they must complete this form to be considered for this selective funding opportunity. Projects will be reviewed to ensure they meet donor intent and partial funding will be allocated accordingly. For more information, please visit this page.

Participation Reminder

• In Michigan, we run a slightly different progression of programs from FIRST national. In Michigan, FIRST LEGO League is an elementary school only program with teams comprised solely of elementary school aged/grade team members. To attend an event or receive any grants, FLLE teams must be aligned to the FIRST in Michigan progression of programs, consisting ONLY of students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
• FIRST LEGO League Explore team size is capped at 6. No exceptions are made, and smaller teams than this are highly encouraged (4-5 students.) Multiple teams out of a given school/organization are welcome.
