2nd ROUND FIM FTC EVENT PLACEMENTS
2nd Round Event placements have been posted! Participation in a 2nd event is optional for teams. The 2nd Round Event Registration form will close at 5pm on Tuesday October 18.
Where to find your team’s confirmed event placements:
Confirmed event placements can be found on the FiM FTC 22-23 Team List and also on this linked list: 1st & 2nd Round Event Placement List (link). Event placement is done with FIRST in Michigan FTC and not with FIRST HQ or with event hosts. Event hosts cannot add/remove teams from events.
1st Round Event – If you see “No Form” as your team’s confirmed 1st Round event:
- Then a 1st Round Event Registration Form has not yet been received from your team. If this is the case, please reach out to tammy@firstinmichigan.org right away to work through your team’s event placement.
- Participating in an FIM FTC official event is a requirement for many grants such as the FiM FTC Rookie Team Grant and the MDE 99h Robotics Grant.
2nd Round Event – If you see “No 2nd Event Form” listed for the team’s 2nd Round event:
- All is good If your team did not submit a 2nd Round event form as they do not wish to participate in an optional 2nd event.
- If your team would still like to participate in a 2nd Round event, fill out the linked 2nd Round Event Registration Form before 5pm on 10/18.
2nd Round Event – If your team submitted a 2nd Round event form and sees “Waitlist” for the team’s 2nd Round event:
- The team likely provided a limited number of 2nd round event options (less than 5 ranked preferences). In this case, the team’s listed preferred events were at capacity when the team’s 2nd round form was processed (date/timestamp order) so the team was not able to be placed in their listed preferred events and is now waitlisted for those events.
- Example: Between 7:00-7:01AM, there were 58 forms submitted with many choosing 12/03-Troy & 12/04-Grosse Pte. Woods as #1 and #2 ranked preferences. Those events had limited open spots after 1st round and so filled quickly in Round 2.
- Historically, event placement from the waitlist does not happen often.
Once a team’s placement in an event is confirmed, the team is expected to follow through with their participation at that event (1st, 2nd, or 3rd round) regardless if they earn an advancement spot from an earlier event. It will reflect negatively on a team to withdraw from an event where they’ve been confirmed. It creates a hardship for the event host in terms of planning and covering expenses as the team’s $100 event fee is remitted directly to the event host and comprises the budget for the event.
EVENT READINESS
A team is “Event Ready” when the FIRST HQ and the FIRST in Michigan tasks listed on the linked EVENT READINESS site page http://firstinmichigan.us/FTC/
Event readiness tasks include:
- Team has a Lead Coach/Mentor 1 and 2 on their Team Dashboard. Both have signed FIRST HQ Consent/Release forms on file. Both have completed the FIRST Youth Protection background screening.
- All team members have been registered through the FIRST Youth Registration Process.
- All team event participants have submitted a FiM Consent/Release form through SmartWaiver.
- Visit the http://firstinmichigan.us/

3rd ROUND EVENT REGISTRATION
For those that wish to play more! 3rd Round Event Registration will open at 7:00AM on Wednesday, October 19. Participation in a 3rd event is OPTIONAL.
Link: 3rd Round Event Registration form; opens 7am, 10/19
Helpful information to gather for the 3rd Round form:
- Date of team’s already confirmed event(s). Do not select event preferences that occur on the same weekend as the team’s already confirmed events. League teams should additionally check their confirmed league meets for date overlaps.
- Refer to the list of open spots by event: Open Spots by Event (link). League Tournaments will not be listed on the 3rd Round form.
- Ranked list of 3rd event preferences that work for your team. The more options your team provides, the more likely the team can be placed in a 3rd round event.
3rd Round Event Registration Particulars:
- Participation in a 2nd/3rd qualifier is OPTIONAL.
- Please submit ONE (1) form per team. . Form responses are date and time-stamped upon submission.
- A team’s 1st/2nd round qualifier could chronologically occur after their 3rd round qualifier.
- 3rd Round event registration forms are processed in a first come-first served order with event placement limited by event capacity.
- For multiple teams out of the same school/org.: There is no guarantee that multiple teams out of the same school/org. will be able to be placed in the same 2nd/3rd round event due to capacity constraints at events.
- A quick submission is recommended. Do not forget to click the “Submit” button at the end of the form.
- Teams that want to increase the likelihood of being placed in a 3rd event are encouraged to provide as many ranked event preferences as possible.
- If the team provides a limited number of ranked event preferences, and those preferences are at capacity when the team’s form is processed (date/timestamp order), the team will be WAITLISTED and WILL NOT BE PLACED in a 3rd round event. There is no guarantee that a team will get into a waitlisted event.
- When a listed 3rd round event reaches capacity, a WAITLIST tag will be added to the event name. This does not happen automatically so there could be a lag. Selecting a waitlisted event will not result in placement in that event but serves only as an indication to FiM FTC that the team would like to be considered for placement in that event if a spot opens up.
- Historically, event placement from the waitlist does not happen often.
STATES’ ADVANCEMENT REMINDERS
- Teams are eligible for advancement at any one of the first three tournaments they participate in at a given level (qualifier, league tournament, championship).
- A team that earns an advancement spot at a given level is not eligible for an advancement spot at other events at that same level.
- The team is still eligible to receive all awards except the Inspire Award. Teams that have won the Inspire Award at another event of the same level, regardless of the region, cannot be considered for the Inspire Award or as an Inspire Award Finalist at additional events at that level.
- Competition Levels: 1) Qualifiers/League Tournaments 2) States 3) FIRST Championship
- If a team has a strong preference for attending a particular State Championship event, the team should choose to participate in qualifying events that advance to that preferred State Championship event. It will not be possible to switch an advancing team from one State Championship event to the other.
- If a team earns an advancement spot at their 1st round event and is registered for a 2nd/3rd round event, the team is expected to follow through on their commitment to compete at the 2nd/3rd round event.
