2ND ROUND FiM FTC EVENT PLACEMENTS
- Then a 1st Round Event Registration Form has not yet been received from your team. If this is the case, please reach out to tammy@firstinmichigan.org right away to work through your team’s event placement.
- Participating in an FIM FTC official event is a requirement for many grants such as the FiM FTC Rookie Team Grant and the MDE 99h Robotics Grant.
- All is good If your team did not submit a 2nd Round event form as they do not wish to participate in an optional 2nd event.
- If your team would still like to participate in a 2nd Round event, fill out the linked 2nd Round Event Registration Form before 5pm on 10/18.
- Two possible reasons:
- All of the team’s 5 ranked preferences were at capacity when the team’s form was processed in date/timestamp order.
- Or, the team provided a limited number of 2nd round event preference options (less than 5) and the preferenced events were at capacity when the team’s form was processed.
- Example: Between 7:00-7:01AM, there were 56 forms submitted. Several events had limited open spots after Round 1 and filled quickly.
- As teams earn States’ advancement spots at events with waitlists, I will reach out to those advancing teams to see if they are willing to relinquish their event spot to enable another team a 2nd play opportunity. There is no expectation that a team should relinquish their spot.
- If a spot opens up at an event with a waitlist, FiM FTC will offer the spot to the next team on the waitlist, in date/timestamp order, for that event per the Round 2 form. The team will have 24 hours to decide whether to accept the spot or not.
- Note that waitlist placement is often “last minute” in nature. There is no way to know when/if an event spot will open up at an event with a waitlist. Historically, event placement from the waitlist does not happen a lot.
Confirmed event placements can be found on the FiM FTC 23-24 Team List and also on this linked list: 1st & 2nd Round Event Placement List (link). Event placement is done with FIRST in Michigan FTC and not with FIRST HQ or with event hosts. Event hosts cannot add/remove teams from events.
3RD ROUND EVENT REGISTRATION OPENS WED., 10/18/22 AT 7AM
Link: 3rd Round Event Registration form (link); opens 7am, 10/18
- Date of team’s already confirmed event(s). Do not select event preferences that occur on the same weekend as the team’s already confirmed events. League teams should additionally check their confirmed league meets for date overlaps.
- Refer to the list of open spots by event: Open Spots by Event (link). League Tournaments will not be listed on the 3rd Round form.
- Ranked list of 3rd event preferences that work for your team. The more options your team provides, the more likely the team can be placed in a 3rd round event.
3rd Round Event Registration Particulars:
- Participation in a 2nd/3rd qualifier is OPTIONAL.
- Please submit ONE (1) form per team. . Form responses are date and time-stamped upon submission.
- A team’s 1st/2nd round qualifier could chronologically occur after their 3rd round qualifier.
- 3rd Round event registration forms are processed in a first come-first served order with event placement limited by event capacity.
- For multiple teams out of the same school/org.: There is no guarantee that multiple teams out of the same school/org. will be able to be placed in the same 2nd/3rd round event due to capacity constraints at events.
- A quick submission is recommended. Do not forget to click the “Submit” button at the end of the form.
- Teams that want to increase the likelihood of being placed in a 3rd event are encouraged to provide as many ranked event preferences as possible.
- If the team provides a limited number of ranked event preferences, and those preferences are at capacity when the team’s form is processed (date/timestamp order), the team will be WAITLISTED and WILL NOT BE PLACED in a 3rd round event. There is no guarantee that a team will get into a waitlisted event.
- When a listed 3rd round event reaches capacity, a WAITLIST tag will be added to the event name. This does not happen automatically so there could be a lag. Selecting a waitlisted event will not result in placement in that event but serves only as an indication to FiM FTC that the team would like to be considered for placement in that event if a spot opens up.
- Historically, event placement from the waitlist does not happen often.
STATES’ ADVANCEMENT REMINDERS
- Each qualifying event (qualifier or league tournament) advances a set number of teams to one of the two FiM FTC State Championship events:12/9-10 States-SE or 12/16-17 States-NW.
- Teams are eligible for advancement at any one of the first three events they participate in at the qualifier/league tournament level.
- A team can earn advancement to only one State Championship event.
- Once a team earns a state’s advancement spot, they are no longer eligible to earn advancement spots at subsequent qualifying events where the team participates. The team can still earn awards at the subsequent events.
- Note that teams can only earn the Inspire Award once at a given competition level (for example, qualifier/league tournament level). All States’ advancing teams are eligible for the Inspire Award at their respective States’ event as States’ is the next level of competition.
- If a team has a strong preference for attending a particular State Championship event, the team should choose to participate in qualifying events that advance to that preferred State Championship event. It will not be possible to switch an advancing team from one State Championship event to the other.
EVENT READINESS
A team is “Event Ready” when the FIRST HQ and the FIRST in Michigan tasks listed on the linked EVENT READINESS site page http://firstinmichigan.us/FTC/
- Team is registered with FIRST HQ for the 2023-24 FTC season ($295 reg fee is paid to FIRST HQ).
- Team has a Lead Coach/Mentor 1 AND Lead Coach/Mentor 2 on their Team Dashboard.
- Both must have an electronically signed FIRST HQ Consent/Release form on file.
- Both must have completed the FIRST Youth Protection background screening.
- The Team Roster on the Team Dashboard will not be accessible until the above tasks are completed.
- Visit http://firstinmichigan.
us/FTC/fim-ftc-event- readiness/ for details on the above items.
YOUTH TEAM REGISTRATION
All student team members must be registered on the team through the FIRST Youth Registration Process. That will ensure that the team members are listed on the FIRST Dashboard Team Roster which is a required event deliverable. Check out the new “Express Enrollment” path. Fast and easy!
Idea: Have a “Team Member Registration” parent/guardian meeting and have a few devices on hand so that those with internet access issues can register their student.
