Round 1 Event Placements l Round 2 Event Reg Opens l States’ Advancement Recap
1ST ROUND FiM FTC EVENT PLACEMENTS
Teams received their Round 1 event placements and updates on their season registration and “event ready” status.
Things to check:
- If your team’s confirmed Round 1 Event = “No Form”, then a 1st Round Event Registration Form has not yet been received from your team. Please submit your team’s 1st round form right away using this link 2023-2024 FiM FTC 1st Round Event Registration Form.
- If your team’s season registration status = “Not registered”, please register your team with FIRST HQ for the 2023-24 season by paying the $295 season registration fee through the team’s FTC Storefront. I will not be able to add the team to the event in the FIRST HQ system until the reg fee is paid in full.
- If your team’s “Event Ready” status = “Not Event Ready”, please visit the EVENT READINESS FIM FTC site page and make sure the listed tasks are completed. Once each team has a Lead Coach/Mentor 1 and 2 that have both electronically signed their FIRST HQ Consent/Release form and completed the FIRST Youth Protection background screening, the team roster and the Youth Team Registration Express Enrollment QR code will be accessible.
The full list of confirmed 1st Round Event placements can be found on the Team List with Fall Event Placements (Round 1) and Round 1 placements are also on the FIM FTC Team List. Reminders:
- Event placement is constrained by event capacity.
- A few spots have been reserved at events for new teams that are onboarding for the season.
- Event placement is done with FIRST in Michigan FTC and not with FIRST HQ or with event hosts. Event hosts cannot add/remove teams from events.
The 1st Round Event Registration form will close today, Oct. 11th, at 5 p.m. At this time, all previously held home event pre-assignments will be released in preparation for 2nd Round Event Registration.
2nd ROUND EVENT REGISTRATION OPENS FRIDAY, OCT. 13, 7AM
2nd Round Event Registration will open at 7:00AM on Friday, October 13. Participation in a 2nd/3rd qualifier is OPTIONAL. FTC teams must compete in one (1) FiM FTC sanctioned event to meet the competition requirement that accompanies many grants such as the 99h state grant.
Round 2 placements are made on a first come-first served basis so submitting soon after the form opens is recommended.

Helpful information to gather for the 2nd Round form:
- Date of team’s 1st Round event. Do not select event preferences that occur on the same weekend as the team’s confirmed 1st Round event. League teams should additionally check their confirmed league meets for date overlaps.
- Refer to the list of open spots by event: 2nd Round Open Spots by Event (link). League Tournaments will not be listed on the 2nd Round form.
- Ranked list of five Round 2 event preferences that work for your team. The more options your team provides, the more likely the team can be placed in a 2nd round event. Providing a limited number of ranked preferences could limit the ability to place the team in a Round 2 event.
Round 2 Event Registration Particulars:
- Participation in a 2nd/3rd qualifier is OPTIONAL.
- Please submit ONE (1) form per team. . Form responses are date and time-stamped upon submission.
- A team’s Round 1 event could chronologically occur after their Round 2 event.
- Round 2 event registration forms are processed in a first come-first served order with event placement limited by event capacity.
- For multiple teams out of the same school/org.: There is no guarantee that multiple teams out of the same school/org. will be able to be placed in the same Round 2 or Round 3 event due to capacity constraints at events.
- A quick submission is recommended. Do not forget to click the “Submit” button at the end of the form.
- Teams that want to increase the likelihood of being placed in a Round 2 event are encouraged to provide at least 5 ranked event preferences.
- If the team provides a limited number of ranked event preferences, and those preferences are at capacity when the team’s form is processed (date/timestamp order), the team will be WAITLISTED and WILL NOT BE PLACED in a Round 2 event. There is no guarantee that a team will get into a waitlisted event.
- When a listed 2nd round event reaches capacity, a WAITLIST tag will be added to the event name. This does not happen automatically so there could be a lag. Selecting a waitlisted event will not result in placement in that event but serves only as an indication to FiM FTC that the team would like to be considered for placement in that event if a spot opens up.
- Historically, event placement from the waitlist does not happen often.
Once a team’s placement in an event is confirmed, the team is expected to follow through with their participation at that event (1st, 2nd, or 3rd round) regardless if they earn an advancement spot from an earlier event. It will reflect negatively on a team to withdraw from an event where they’ve been confirmed. It creates a hardship for the event host in terms of planning and covering expenses as the team’s $100 event fee is remitted directly to the event host and comprises the budget for the event.
STATES’ ADVANCEMENT REMINDERS
- Each qualifying event (qualifier or league tournament) advances a set number of teams to one of the two FiM FTC State Championship events:12/9-10 States-SE or 12/16-17 States-NW.
- Teams are eligible for advancement at any one of the first three events they participate in at the qualifier/league tournament level.
- A team can earn advancement to only one State Championship event.
- Once a team earns a state’s advancement spot, they are no longer eligible to earn advancement spots at subsequent qualifying events where the team participates. The team can still earn awards at the subsequent events.
- Note that teams can only earn the Inspire Award once at a given competition level (for example, qualifier/league tournament level). All States’ advancing teams are eligible for the Inspire Award at their respective States’ event as States’ is the next level of competition.
- If a team has a strong preference for attending a particular State Championship event, the team should choose to participate in qualifying events that advance to that preferred State Championship event. It will not be possible to switch an advancing team from one State Championship event to the other.
