1st Round Events Confirmed l 2nd Round Event Reg l Ford Grant Reopened l Event Paperwork l Program Updates
1st ROUND EVENT CONFIRMATIONS
1st round qualifier event confirmations are posted on the MI FTC Team List. The confirmations are in 5th column. The original Home Event Pre-assignment is the column with the blue font (for distinguishing purposes).
Reminder that FTC does not use the Team Dashboard for event registration nor will a team’s confirmed events be listed on the Team Dashboard. This is a FIRST HQ determination.
Please check:
- For those that kept their pre-assigned home event: The “blue” event name should match the event name in the column to it’s right.
- For those that opted out of their pre-assigned home event, the event name in the “Confirmed” column is one of your ranked event preferences. Due to event capacity constraints, not every “Change” form could be given their 1st, 2nd ranked event preference.
- If your confirmed home event spot lists “NEED FORM“, your team still needs to submit their 1st round qualifier event form.
- If your event confirmation looks incorrect, email michiganftc@gmail.com.
If your team is not yet fully registered for the 2018-19 season, make sure that I am kept abreast of your team’s status. Home event pre-assignments have been released for all teams. I will delete this column on the team list in the next few days. Participation in a FIRST in Michigan FTC sanctioned event is a requirement for all teams receiving grant funds.
2nd ROUND EVENT REGISTRATION
2nd round qualifier event registration will open FRIDAY, OCT. 12, AT 7:00 AM. The form is linked below:
2nd event placement prioritization:
- Available spots at the event; assignment is made until an event’s capacity is reached.
- Date/timestamp of 2nd Event Form submission
- Date/timestamp of team’s season registration per the FIRST FTC Team Registration System.Teams registered by this date are given preferred placement status. Note that this did not guarantee preferred placement at a particular event.
- Team provides a full ranking of preferred event choices. Limiting the number of ranked event choices on the form could result in a team not being placed in a 2nd qualifier event due to the team’s preferred event(s) having already reaching capacity.
- Teams will be automatically add to an event’s waitlist if the team’s chosen event is at capacity when the team’s form is is being processed.
- There is no guarantee of a team’s placement at a particular event nor availability of a spot at a team’s preferred event(s).
Please refer to the 2017-2017 MI FTC Event Process for details on the event registration process.
Available spots: Selecting an event with ZERO remaining spots will waitlist a team for that event.

PROGRAM REMINDERS
FTC PROGRAM ALIGNMENT
In Michigan, we run a slightly different progression of programs from FIRST national. We operate FTC as a middle school only program with teams comprised solely of MI middle school aged/grade team members. Teams must be properly aligned in order to be eligible for many grants and to participate in FIRST in Michigan FTC events. High school students can mentor the FTC team but cannot be team members. This is often a point of confusion as the FIRST site reflects a different age/grade range for FTC.
TEAM SIZE
FTC team size is capped at 15 team members.
OPEN SITES
Reminder to visit one of our FTC OPEN FIELD SITES where game elements and assistance are both available from our fabulous FIRST FTC community: For those near a Robot Garage location, don’t forget their FIRST Studio Nights on Sundays for FLL and FTC teams.
GAME UPDATES
- Remember that robots have a weight limit this season of 42 lbs. This will be checked in Robot Inspections. Example of the scale that FiM FTC will be using at events.
- Navigation Targets – A critical update has been made to the navigation targets to correct a scaling issue on two of the images. Please make sure to download the most recent version, Version 2, of this document.
- Game Manual Part 2 – A critical update and addition to the Game Manual Part 2 has been released. This release includes an edit to rule <GS3>, and the addition of two new rules, <GS10> and <GS11>. This release will be included in a team blast as well as posted on the forums.
- Game Manual Part 1 – An update to the use of USV cameras has been made throughout the document.
- Field Inspection Checklist – This has been updated to reflect the changes to the use of the USV camera.
