This positioning gives middle school student their own turf where they can learn, play, hone skills, and acquire new ones.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design, build, and program an 18\u201dX18\u201dX18\u201d robot.<\/li>\n<li>Connect classroom lessons to real-world application.<\/li>\n<li>See\u00a0STEM fields as areas of study and career choices.<\/li>\n<li>Apply and document the engineering process.<\/li>\n<li>Get hands-on programming experience.<\/li>\n<li>Develop problem solving, organizational, and teamwork skills.<\/li>\n<li>Compete and cooperate in alliances at competitions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>FIRST<\/em> is more than robots. Its vision is to develop the next generation of innovators and leaders.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #f57f26; font-size: 18px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-372\" src=\"http:\/\/firstinmichigan.us\/FTC\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/24105231507_dbe4eb2c17_k-2-e1534171383863.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"434\" \/>Let&#8217;s play!<\/span><br \/>\nTeams come together in a variety of ways.\u00a0They can be school-based or can form within non-profit organizations, scout troops, home school groups, neighborhoods.\u00a0<em>FIRST<\/em> Tech Challenge\u00a0is a fit in any setting: large, small, public, private, rural, urban, or suburban.<\/p>\n<p>Team members, guided by coaches and mentors, create a robot to compete in a\u00a0<em>FIRST\u00a0<\/em>designed game using a standard, reusable kit of parts. The game is played on a 12\u2019X12\u2019 playing field in a 2-on-2 alliance format.\u00a0The season is themed with a new game every\u00a0year.<\/p>\n<p>Robots are\u00a0programmed and controlled with a user friendly Java based Android platform. This introduces\u00a0team members to the cutting edge world of mobile computing.<\/p>\n<p>Events are a celebration of the season and a chance for teams to engage in the fun and excitement of competition.
