Participation in a sanctioned FIRST in Michigan event is a requirement of all grants.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>FIRST<\/em>\u00ae<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>FIRST<\/em>\u00ae is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity and inclusion. To build a uniquely diverse and innovative workforce \u2013 one that can truly address the challenges facing today\u2019s world \u2013 we need kids of all backgrounds and capabilities in the professional pipeline. All kids need equitable access to opportunity, relevant mentorship, and engagement to build a foundation for a bright future. Collectively, we must empower our young people to grow up to solve the world\u2019s most pressing problems, be strong citizens, and build a brighter future. \u2013 FIRST\u00ae LEGO\u00ae League Explore which serves grades 2-4, FIRST\u00ae LEGO\u00ae League Challenge which serves grades 4-8, FIRST\u00ae Tech Challenge, serving grades 7-12, and FIRST\u00ae Robotics Competition which serves grades 9-12.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FIRST\u00ae LEGO\u00ae League Discover<\/strong><br \/>\nFIRST LEGO League Discover is a playful introductory STEM program for children in Preschool &#8211; Pre-K (ages 3 &#8211; 4), that ignites their natural curiosity and builds their habits of learning. By the end of the program, children emerge more confident, better equipped to face future challenges, and discover the joy of learning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How does it work?<\/strong><br \/>\nA new and exciting challenge is presented every year and each team of four children begins their exploration of this real-world theme with an exclusive LEGO Education Discover Set. With this set as a starting point, throughout the 10 sessions of the experience, they build a solution to the challenge with LEGO\u00ae DUPLO\u00ae elements. Teams share their journey, ideas, models, and STEM skills at a celebration event. Participation in a sanctioned <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FIRST<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Michigan FTC engagement option in the 2024-2025 season is a requirement of teams that receive the MDE FIRST Robotics grant award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teams applying for this grant must list their school affiliation on their Team Profile. This person is usually in the superintendent\u2019s office. The Level 5 can give the coach Level 3 or 4 clearance to fill it out once it is initiated. Then, the Level 5 can review the information and submit the application.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any MDE recognized public or non-public school\/district may apply for the grant.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>All of a school\u2019s\/district\u2019s FIRST teams should be included on a single application. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The application allows you to add \u201cpages\u201d for each team across programs. It should include all of the FRC, FTC, FLL-Challenge\/Explore\/Discover teams in your school\/district.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are a <\/span><b>non-public school<\/b> <b>and don\u2019t have a <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/firstinmichigan-dot-yamm-track.appspot.com\/Redirect?ukey=1e2YYpV9DyB8SMS24zO-2ZDpzklU4OfAV5TCpn8THmko-767881163&amp;key=YAMMID-1639139380819&amp;link=https:\/\/sigma.michigan.gov\/webapp\/PRDVSS2X1\/AltSelfService\"><b>SIGMA vendor number<\/b><\/a><b> with the state yet<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you must establish one. Do this right away.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The award amounts in the grant are qualified with the words \u201cup to\u201d. This serves to alert you that this is the maximum amount the team may be awarded but the numbers may be adjusted downward based on the number of applicants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The team budget is part of the application. There is no longer a separate spending plan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Make sure you communicate right away with your Level 5 because the closing date will come more quickly than you think.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participating in a sanctioned FIRST in Michigan <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LL Discover event in the 2024-25 season<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a requirement of the grant.
