Michigan FIRST<\/i> LEGO League Challenge Qualifying Advancement Policy \u2013 BIOGLOW 2026<\/h3>\n

PRELIMINARY \u2013 updated 11\/2\/2026. These championship assignments and advancing-team numbers are preliminary and subject to change based on new developments, including changes in event registrations, team moves and withdrawals, and event changes or cancellations. Please don’t make Championship plans based on this page until FIRST<\/i> in Michigan confirms your team’s advancement.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Championship Registration and Notification<\/h4>\n
    \n
  • There is no individual team registration for the Michigan State Championship.<\/li>\n
  • Each qualifying event’s Tournament Director emails the list of advancing teams to the Michigan FIRST<\/i> LEGO League Challenge Program Director. All advancing teams will be emailed no later than Monday, December 14, 2026<\/b>, after all qualifying events have ended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Championship Rules<\/h4>\n
      \n
    • Teams advance based only on the qualifying tournament they attend. Teams may not switch Championship days.<\/li>\n
    • A team may earn advancement only once. If a team that has already advanced qualifies again at a later event, the spot passes to the next qualifying team from that event. A team attending a second qualifying event may advance from that event only if it did not already advance from its first.<\/li>\n
    • If an advancing team cannot attend the Championship, it must notify its Tournament Director immediately so the next qualifying team from that event can be invited.<\/li>\n
    • Teams that may be invited should not disassemble their robots until after the Championship.<\/li>\n
    • Alternates will be invited if teams decline or if room remains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Advancement Criteria<\/h4>\n
        \n
      • Advancement is based on a team’s combined performance in all four areas: Core Values, Innovation Project, Robot Design, and Robot Performance (robot game scores).<\/li>\n
      • Teams must be well rounded. Award winners, including teams with the top robot scores, may not advance. Teams that did not receive an award may advance if they performed well across all areas.<\/li>\n
      • Advancement decisions are final. No changes are made after an event ends.<\/li>\n
      • Teams that violate the FIRST<\/i> LEGO League Challenge Participation Rules are not eligible for awards or advancement.<\/li>\n
      • Teams must meet the FIRST<\/i> in Michigan progression of programs requirements: students in grades 4\u20135, grade 6 students who attend an elementary school, and individual grade 3 students who are \u201cplaying up.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Post-Championship Advancement<\/h4>\n

        • Each Championship day advances an equal number of teams to available post-championship events:\n

            *Preliminary. The number of teams advancing from each event is proportional to the number of teams registered at that event, with at least one team advancing from every event. Advancing-team numbers and Championship days are reviewed throughout the season as registrations and event team counts change, so that each Championship day has 48 teams.
