2020-2021 Engagement Options

The FIRST in Michigan FIRST LEGO League season timeline has been expanded with official events beginning in February and extending out as needed.

Participation in any one of these FIRST in Michigan FIRST LEGO League Challenge sanctioned engagement options below meets the competition criteria for grants.

Option 1: Winter Remote Competition Season
Participate in FIRST LEGO League REPLAY
  • Event registration will begin in late January
  • Two options for robot matches:
    • Video upload of three matches on team’s own field
    • Remote events hub visit to complete three matches (currently suspended)
  • Judging is virtual using a video call platform i.e. Zoom/Google Meets.
  • Events are managed by FIRST in Michigan through Google platforms.
Option 2: Virtual Project
Teams who are unable to meet in person or remotely build a robot may complete just the Innovation Project.
  • Teams will submit written materials and choose from a video submission or remote judging session.
  • Teams will upload their materials in early April.
  • Teams who choose this option will not be eligible for any awards and advancement (including the Global Innovation Award.)
Option 3: Spring Remote Competition Season
Participate in FIRST LEGO League REPLAY
  • Event registration will begin at the end of March
  • Two options for robot matches:
    • Video upload of three matches on team’s own field
    • Remote events hub visit to complete four matches (currently suspended)
  • Judging is virtual using Zoom.
  • Events are managed by FIRST in Michigan through Google platforms.

Winter Remote Events

Note: Teams who wish to be eligible for Global Innovation Award advancement must compete in the Winter Competition Season.
