MDE GRANT<\/span>\u00a0<\/b><\/div>\n
The MDE posted the list of 99h state grant recipients late last week. The list includes<\/span>\u00a0only the totals each team will receive. We took the MDE list and separated out the stipends and team support awards so it would be easier for your districts to know what to pay the coach(es) and what to pay the teams. You can find our spreadsheet here:<\/div>\n

CALCULATION OF YOUR AWARD<\/strong><\/div>\n
All awards were reduced by a percentage that\u00a0would allow<\/span>\u00a0the MDE\u00a0to pay ALL applicants that applied properly. Public schools received<\/span>\u00a080.8% of the max award specified in the RFP, and non-public schools received<\/span>\u00a092.9%. Public and non-public school awards\u00a0are paid out of<\/span>\u00a0different<\/span>\u00a0buckets of state money, hence the difference between the two awards.\u00a0 If\u00a0your district requested\u00a0<\/span>less than the maximum RFP award amount, the reduction was applied to the amount that was requested.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
T<\/span>here are a few things to keep in mind\u00a0when viewing our spreadsheet<\/span>:<\/span><\/div>\n
1.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Our<\/span>\u00a0list includes only the\u00a0FIRST<\/i>\u00a0awards. Use this link to the\u00a0<\/span>techplan.org\u00a0recipient list<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0find awards for programs other than\u00a0FIRST.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
2.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>At the end of the season, the MDE requires FIM to submit a list of teams\u00a0that did not participate in the required number of events<\/span>\u00a0so they can defund them<\/span>.\u00a0FRC teams\u00a0are required to participate in two official events.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>FTC and FLL\u00a0teams are required to compete in one\u00a0official\u00a0FIM\u00a0<\/span>event.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
WHERE TO WATCH FOR THE PAYMENT<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
Payment from the state does not come by check.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>A single payment for the entire award\u00a0is<\/span>\u00a0included\u00a0in the direct deposit the district receives from the state each month\u00a0for their School Aid<\/span>.\u00a0 The\u00a0grant funds paid will be noted<\/span>\u00a0on\u00a0line\u00a0“99h” of the statement that accompanies the direct deposit. Please tell\u00a0your administration to<\/span>\u00a0check there.\u00a0Then w<\/span>ork with them on a plan for how you can access the funds.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
TIMING<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
We expect non-public school districts to receive their awards this month, and public school districts next month.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

STIPEND<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
Remind the district that your stipend must include the 25% match on top of the amount awarded.\u00a0 If they choose not to pay the stipend award to the coach(es) for any reason,\u00a0the stipend award<\/span>\u00a0must be returned\u00a0<\/span>to the MDE.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
TEAM SUPPORT AWARD\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
The support award can be spent on anything related to the team.\u00a0You are not limited to\u00a0the items or amounts<\/span>\u00a0you put on the budget in your NexSys application.<\/b>\u00a0Acceptable items include<\/span>\u00a0such things as registration fees (advancement included), T-shirts, robot parts, food, transportation, hand and machine tools, banners, team giveaways, 3D printers, etc. Literally, ANYTHING for the team is an acceptable expense.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\n
SOLE USE OF THE MONEY<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
The money is for the sole use of your team. The district cannot keep the funds and divert them for any other purpose.<\/span><\/div>\n
